Release rules in San Diego County
- The court’s bail schedule sets a standard bail amount for each felony and misdemeanor charge. That is the amount a bail bond covers.
- When someone is booked on two or more charges, the bail amounts are usually added together.
- Men are booked at San Diego Central Jail, women at Las Colinas in Santee, and North County arrests at the Vista Detention Facility.
- After bail is posted, the jail completes its record checks before release. Bail cannot be posted while the person is in court or on the way to court.
- The first court date (arraignment) is usually within 48 hours of arrest, longer over weekends and court holidays.
- Bail can be posted once booking is complete or after a court appearance. It cannot be posted once the person has been sentenced.

At the jail’s custody information office, 24 hours a day: San Diego Central Jail downtown, Las Colinas in Santee, the Vista Detention Facility, the South Bay Detention Facility in Chula Vista, or the George Bailey, East Mesa and Rock Mountain jails on Otay Mesa.
Where are men and women booked?
Men arrested in the San Diego area are booked at San Diego Central Jail and women at Las Colinas in Santee. The Vista Detention Facility books men and women arrested in North County.
Can bail be posted at a city police station?
City police departments in San Diego County hold people only briefly, then move them to a Sheriff’s jail, where bail is posted 24 hours a day. San Diego Police books people directly into the Sheriff’s jails.
