About the El Cajon police station
El Cajon police moved into their Civic Center Way headquarters in 2011, with a booking and holding area in the basement. Because it is not staffed around the clock, the Grand Jury says it is used only for holding, and people are moved out for booking before they need a meal.
The East County Regional Center, where El Cajon cases are heard, is a short walk away downtown. Men are booked at San Diego Central Jail, about 13 miles away, and women at Las Colinas, about 3 miles.
