About the Vista Detention Facility
The Vista Detention Facility opened in 1978 and was expanded in 1989, making it the oldest jail in the Sheriff’s system. Its rated capacity is about 800.
It is the only jail in North County that books both men and women, and it is part of the North County Regional Center, where North County criminal cases are heard. In 2013 it opened the jail system’s first veterans unit, run with the VA.
The County plans to replace it with a new North County Detention and Reentry Facility.
