About Hawaiian Gardens

Hawaiian Gardens became a city in 1964. At about one square mile, it is the smallest city by area in LA County. The name comes from a 1920s refreshment stand decorated with palm fronds.

The city contracts with the LA County Sheriff’s Department through the Lakewood Station. Hawaiian Gardens briefly formed its own police department in 1995 before returning to the Sheriff. Cases go to the Bellflower Courthouse.
