About the Lerdo Justice Facility
The Lerdo Justice Facility sits on the Sheriff’s Lerdo jail complex off Industrial Farm Road, north of Bakersfield and about 11 miles from downtown. Its Inmate Reception Center is where Kern County books and releases new arrests: about 30,000 a year, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The Justice Facility itself is a Type II jail with 825 medium- and maximum-security beds for people who were just arrested or are waiting for court.
Two other buildings share the complex: the Lerdo Pre-Trial Facility next door, the county’s largest jail, and the Max-Med facility, which is closed for construction. The old Central Receiving Facility on Truxtun Avenue in downtown Bakersfield no longer books anyone; it only holds people on their court days.
Personal property is released at the Justice Facility Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Information about a court appearance is usually available after 5:30 p.m. the same day.
