About the Mojave Jail
The Mojave Jail is inside the Sheriff’s Mojave Substation on Highway 58, next door to the Mojave courthouse. It takes arrests from the Mojave area and the rest of East Kern and holds people until they are released or moved to Bakersfield.
A Grand Jury inspection described six holding cells with 14 beds, used for short stays that usually do not exceed 72 hours. With the Sheriff’s jail in Ridgecrest closed for construction, more East Kern arrests come through Mojave.
The Lerdo jails north of Bakersfield are about 62 miles away, so posting bail in Mojave before a transfer saves a long trip.
