About the Main Jail
The Pre-Trial Detention Facility, known as the Main Jail, opened in 1980 at the Ventura County Government Center on South Victoria Avenue, next to the Hall of Justice where every adult criminal case in the county is heard. It holds about 890 people and runs 24 hours a day.
Together with the East Valley Jail in Thousand Oaks, it takes arrests from every police agency in the county; the Sheriff’s Office books about 23,000 people a year. Bail is posted here in four ways: the exact amount in cash, a cashier’s check payable to the Ventura County Superior Court, a credit or debit card through GovPayNet, or a bail bond.
The Grand Jury reports that release often takes 6 to 10 hours after bail is posted.
