About the Oren R. Fox Detention Facility
The Oren R. Fox Medium Security Detention Facility is the newest building on the Applestill Road campus. The county applied for a state grant in 2011, received $33 million, broke ground in August 2016 and began housing people here in September 2018.
It has six two-tier housing units of 45 people each and a four-bed medical center, 274 beds in all, plus classrooms that were designed in from the start. A Civil Grand Jury inspection lists intake and release among the services in the building, along with the jail’s administrative offices.
The facility is named after Oren R. Fox, Imperial County’s sheriff from 1973 to 1974 and again from 1979 to 1999.
