About the Regional Adult Detention Facility
The Regional Adult Detention Facility, known as RADF, was built in the late 1970s and took its first incarcerated persons in August 1981. It is one of three facilities on the Sheriff’s campus at the end of Applestill Road, just south of downtown El Centro.
RADF is where the county books people. The Sheriff’s Office says everyone is first housed here while they wait for a medical screening and a classification interview; after that they stay at RADF or move to the Oren R. Fox or Herbert Hughes facility next door. Most people at RADF have not been sentenced.
Its twelve two-tier modules hold 288 people, two to a cell, and it houses the jail’s main medical center, with a five-bed medical unit each for men and women. The El Centro Criminal Courthouse on Wake Avenue is about 2 miles away.

RADF questions
Why is everyone booked at RADF first?
The Sheriff’s Office houses every new arrival at RADF until a medical screening and a classification interview are done. Only then can a person be moved to Oren R. Fox or Herbert Hughes, so bail for a new arrest is almost always for someone at RADF.
Is RADF the same as the Imperial County Jail?
It is one part of it. The Imperial County Jail is three facilities on one campus at 328 Applestill Rd.: RADF, the Oren R. Fox Detention Facility and the Herbert Hughes Correctional Center.
How many people does RADF hold?
RADF has 288 beds in twelve two-tier modules, for men and women, plus the jail’s main medical housing.
