About the North Area substation
The North Area Substation is in Buttonwillow, at 181 East First Street. It covers the west side of the valley floor: Buttonwillow, Lost Hills, Belridge, Blackwell’s Corner, Keck’s Corner, Spicer City, Devil’s Den, and the unincorporated land around Shafter and Wasco.
Buttonwillow once had its own small jail, but the Sheriff’s Office says it stopped using it in the late 1960s because of state rules on supervising prisoners. Arrests now go to the Lerdo Justice Facility, about 22 miles away.
