Good to know
Release rules in Imperial County
- Imperial County uses the Superior Court's 2026 felony and misdemeanor schedule; the bond is written for the amount it lists.
- For each case, bail is the highest single charge plus any enhancements. Some lower-level charges are listed at $0 bail and released on a promise to appear.
- Every arrest in the county is booked at the Regional Adult Detention Facility on Applestill Road in El Centro.
- Release usually takes 6 to 8 hours after bail is posted.
- Felony and misdemeanor cases from the whole county go to the El Centro Criminal Courthouse on Wake Avenue, open since January 2024; the Brawley courthouse is closed.
- If no judge has reviewed a request for higher bail within eight hours of booking, the jail can release on the schedule amount.

Imperial County bail questions
What decides the bail amount in Imperial County?
The Imperial County Superior Court publishes one felony and misdemeanor schedule for 2026. Each case is priced at its single most serious charge, then any enhancements are added on top. Charges the schedule lists at $0 are released on a signed promise to appear. Tell us the booking charges and we look up the figure.
Which building do I go to on Applestill Road?
None of them, in most cases. The jail sits inside the Sheriff’s main building at the end of Applestill Road, off Clark Road just south of downtown El Centro, and its three facilities share one campus. We handle the bond with the jail directly, any hour.
Why does everyone start at RADF?
Everyone arrested in the county is booked at the Regional Adult Detention Facility (RADF) in El Centro. The Sheriff’s Office says all incarcerated persons are first housed at RADF for a medical screening and a classification interview, then may stay there or move to the Oren R. Fox or Herbert Hughes facility on the same campus.
Does Calexico or Brawley police keep people overnight?
No. Calexico, Brawley, El Centro, Imperial and Calipatria officers, and Sheriff’s deputies from Holtville to Winterhaven, drive arrests to the El Centro jail campus. That is the only place in the county where a bond is accepted.
When does the person walk out?
In our experience the jail lets people go 6 to 8 hours after the bond goes in. Release paperwork runs through the Oren R. Fox facility, so plan to pick them up in El Centro.
Is there still a courthouse in Brawley?
No. Criminal cases are heard at the El Centro Criminal Courthouse, 650 Wake Ave., which opened in January 2024. The Brawley courthouse closed at the end of 2023, so cases from Brawley, Calipatria, Westmorland and the north end of the valley also go to El Centro.
Does a Westmorland arrest go somewhere different now?
No. Since August 2026 Sheriff’s deputies have been covering patrol in Westmorland, and those arrests are booked at the same El Centro jail as the rest of the county.
