About Maywood
Maywood became a city in 1924. At about 1.2 square miles, it is one of the smallest cities in the county by area. It borders Vernon, Bell, Huntington Park and Commerce, with the Los Angeles River nearby.
Maywood had its own police department until July 1, 2010, when the city disbanded it. Since then the Sheriff’s Department has policed Maywood from the East Los Angeles Station, which also covers Commerce and Cudahy.
