About Compton
Compton incorporated in 1888, the eighth city in LA County. It is nicknamed the Hub City, and its freeways, rail lines and the Compton/Woodley Airport link it to the rest of the region.
Compton ran its own police department until 2000, when the city switched to the LA County Sheriff’s Department. The Sheriff’s Compton Station now patrols the city, and the Compton Courthouse is right in town.
