About the Gilroy Police Department
The Gilroy Police Department station at 7301 Hanna Street, at Seventh Street, was dedicated in March 2007, replacing the old headquarters on Rosanna Street. It was built to hold prisoners for up to 96 hours, but a 2018 Civil Grand Jury report found it has long been used only as a short-term holding facility.
That means Gilroy arrests make the longest booking trip in the county: about 30 miles north to the Main Jail in San Jose. The case comes back south: Gilroy cases are heard at the Morgan Hill Courthouse, about 9 miles from the station.
