About the Metropolitan Detention Center
The Metropolitan Detention Center is the LAPD’s newest jail. It opened downtown in 2011 and took over from the much smaller jail at the old Parker Center headquarters.
The building covers about 172,000 square feet at Temple and Los Angeles streets. It is also the home base of LAPD Custody Services Division, formerly called Jail Division, which runs the department’s jails.
