About Glen Helen

Glen Helen began in 1960 as a work camp for men in Devore, below Cajon Pass, and was also home to the Sheriff’s Academy. A women’s facility followed in 1988. It is the county’s main jail for people serving county sentences, with work release and home detention programs, and in 2013 it started the first county-run inmate fire camp in California.

The center closed in August 2024 for renovation. Its first renovated section reopened on September 19, 2026, for men, and another phase is expected to open later. Call us and we confirm where your loved one is housed.
