About the Barstow Jail
The Barstow station, founded in 1890, is one of the oldest in the county, and it patrols the largest area: more than 9,200 square miles of desert, including Baker, Hinkley, Yermo and Trona.
The station runs a short-stay jail. Barstow has no criminal court of its own, so Barstow-area cases go to the Victorville Courthouse. People who stay in custody are moved to a larger Sheriff’s jail; the High Desert Detention Center is about 34 miles away.
